Martial Arts and Music Event Music and Mayhem 2003 Will Rock Downtown With
Live Fighting Competition and Live Music Event Features Regional Fighting Champions
and Local UT Hip-Hop Entertainers
Salt Lake City, UT: May 14, 2003 Music and Mayhem 2003, a new martial arts
entertainment event, will kick off this Saturday, May 17th at 5:00pm MT as the
first of several spring and summer shows that will be held at the Gallivan Center
in Downtown Salt Lake City. Each event will feature amateur Thai boxing and
NHB fights in a boxing ring outside.
A live concert of local hip-hop bands and DJs produced by Inner City Entertainment
will feature artists A-Train, Ikehella, Young Butch; and BTS, featuring Q-Crazy,
Slim-T, and Jamal. Food and drink vendors, including Anheuser-Busch Budweiser,
will be at the show. Type T Fight Gear will also be sold at the event.
Many of the scheduled Utah fighters currently hold regional and national amateur
championship titles. Champions on the card include:
- Mickee "Sick Boy" Porritt: ISKA United States Super Middleweight
Champion, ISKA Rocky Mountain Super Middleweight Champion, International Amateur
Muay Thai Association Light Heavy Weight Champion, and 1999 Utah Tough Man
- Steve Gomm: Mountain West 170 lbs NHB Champion
- Casey Jackson: Ultimate Combat Super Heavyweight Champion
- Melanie Kohler: Fought at the International K1 event held in Vegas May 3,
2003
- One of the featured bouts will be between Utah fighter, Alisanne Casey,
and ISKA Colorado State Super Bantamweight and IKF 2001 Flyweight Champion,
Katie "Killer" Meehan
"The exciting combination of martial arts fighting fused with live hip-hop
music introduce new inroads in professional and amateur entertainment, and is
a step up from the local bar fighting scene," said Griffen Reynaud, head
trainer at the Walt Bayless Combat Jiu Jitsu of Holladay, Utah, and fight organizer
of the event. " We think this ground breaking and appealing combination
of artistic and cultural expression will be well received in Salt Lake,"
Reynaud concluded.
Kwame Stephens, the regional representative for the International Kickboxing
Federation, the sanctioning body for the fighting competition, will make a guest
appearance. Stephens is a three time Muay Thai Champion and is the number 1
contender for the upcoming IKF Middleweight Championship scheduled for June
7, 2003 in Peoria, Illinois.
Alex "Brazilian Killa" Stebling, 4 time Pride Fighting Champion,
UFC and Pancrase veteran, IVC 16 man Absolute Weight Tournament Champion, and
Reality Submission Light Heavy Weight Champion, will also make a guest appearance.
